I think it is a beautiful room!! Have you thought of hanging sheers between the red cutains on the same rod? I also like the idea of a scarf or valance. But honestly, I think it is beautiful just as it is.

What about a tiffany style lamp with a swinging arm for next to the piano? JCPenney carries a few that are beautiful. They would match the elegance of a queen anne furniture. You could do a matching or complimenting table lamp by a reading chair somewhere else in the room. Or put the table lamp on the piano (on a felt pad) and use the floor lamp near a chair.

Have you thought of hanging some kind of chandelier over the piano?

It looks fine the way it is. There is nothing to distract from the quote, which is DARLING. If you must to something with the rod, you might think about going with 1.) a larger "gauge" rod (larger diameter) in a finish that you like 2.) I've seen people use a piece of fabric matching the curtain and squish it up on the rod a bit, like a smooshed down sock, OR 3.0 you could go with a small valence hanging from the soffit to just below the rod, which would tie both panels together a bit, but would sort of hem in the window a bit. You could go with a hanging valence, of a more tailored one with the fabric affixed to a sub-stucture for lightweight wood or even foam core.

i've seen where people just use a little rod on either side of the window. if the red curtains are always open, there's no need to have a rod all the way across. here's an example picture:

Ooooooh. Pretty! I saw wrap the rod with some kind of decorative garland or maybe some soft, pretty little lights. I really don't think it is too distracting just the way it is though, but you are the one who has to live with it. LOVE the cool quote!
