Say Anything

I have noticed that many bloggers have their entries go without comments.  What’s up with that?  Everyone likes to be validated and in this medium, getting a comment on your blog is the only way to do so.  I have gone for days and days not even having one comment. I feel like I should be tapping the microphone saying, "Is thing on?"

I am just as guilty as anyone of drive-by blog reading: reading and enjoying but not commenting. So what prevents us from commenting?  For me, it can be a matter of time. I enjoy reading my friends’ blogs with a cup of hot chai in the morning.  But all too soon, the demands of the day are calling me and I have to get off the computer.  But really, how long does it take to type, "what a great idea," "good luck," or "great pictures!"  Sometimes, though, someone has written something that is truly thought provoking and I’d like to comment, but need some time to formulate my thoughts.  In these cases, maybe it would be nice to write, "Very thought provoking.  I’ll comment again when I have given it more thought."  So I have decided to try and leave a comment on any entry I read.  I challenge you to do the same!  Just let someone know you were there and enjoyed what they wrote.  Offer a note of encouragement, tell them they made you laugh or just thank them for sharing their insight.  Just say anything!  (And start with me!)

More Mac and Cheese, please!

  • Hey, it works now! The other times I’ve tried, I just got the comments already there or a comments section with no way to post. Glad it worked this time. I can be hit and miss with comments, especially since I use bloglines, but it’s good to be reminded that other people like comments as much as I do.

  • Yeah – it’s working! I’m not sure if it’s the login thing or not, but it’s working now! And, thank you for the reminder that we need to comment – I know there are days that I am only encouraged by those comments!

  • You got me! I think you summed up well my reasons for “drive-by” blog reading. 🙂 I love your blog, though. My dh already announced he wants to get one of those gazebo things for our back patio like you showed in your pictures a few entries back.

Also I didn’t really want to have to take the time to register just to post a comment. If it turns out to be necessary, I guess this one won’t post. If not, I guess I worried about nothing.

  • Lorri, I hope you have a wonderful day enjoying your precious family, and that things are a bit better-

  • This thing IS on! I’m reading! I love Mac-and-Cheese Chronicles. Good to the very last drop!

  • read your blog after reading your post on the SL forums about your sweet daughter. I can’t imagine what you’re going through. We are a retired military family, and since my father also retired from the Navy, I’ve only ever been a civilian for 5 years of my life. We could swap military medicine stories for hours, I’m sure. I’ve had incredibly fantastic care, and I’ve had…less so. Nevertheless, I hope your experience can effect a change.
And the reason I almost never leave comments is because somehow, my posts ‘keep coming up with errors or “not accepted”. May have something to do with our location (N.Iraq).

  • Thanks for the reminder – I’m going to try and be more faithful at this.
