Lookout Rock

I’m always thinking of a ton of things to blog about, but I’m a little sleep deprived these days, so I keep forgetting what they are.

“What are you saying, exactly?”

But when Pumpkin Girl and Bip took me to see “lookout rock”, I remembered to take my camera along.

This hangout of theirs is on the bluff the rises behind the park across the street from our house.

It’s not a difficult climb if you’re young and spry and fairly close to the ground and don’t have a camera banging around your neck. But I did my best, encouraged by Bip saying, “Come on, Mama, it’s easy!”

Here it is, lookout rock.

Perched upon this rock, you can spy on the whole neighborhood and see a good portion of the city.

The rock has fun hiding places, too.

Another close-by rock, in the “spy zone” as the children call it, has a little cave.

You can see our house from up there. I think I should go back and retake this picture with the depth of field reversed. Look at me with my photography jargon! It means with the house in focus and the tree branches blurred.

We think it’s a perfect place to play!

More Mac and Cheese, please!

  • I can hardly wait for the kids to take me to “lookout rock”! And the baby…that one is going to break a few hearts 🙂

  • That looks so fun! Of course, given my kids ages (4, 2 and 9 months) I’m sort of glad we don’t live near anything quite so exciting. 🙂

  • Pipsqueak is one cute baby, and that photo of him is priceless.

Lookout rock is my kind of place, but I have to admit with all the talk of bears and cougars. . .yikes! Can you send ’em out to play with a gun? 😉

  • You’ve got beautiful children, Lorri.

What a fun place to play and imagine!
    Thanks for sharing.

  • Thanks, Sandy! It’s such a fun rock because the kids can see and hear me when I call them and I know where they are, even I can’t actually see them myself.

  • Kate – I totally understand! My oldest two children are 10 and 12, so they definitely have the freedom to roam around a bit. The 5 year old never goes out alone and we have very strict rules about that rock, the woods, the park and being outside in general. No one is allowed to stalk off alone. They have to stay together, no leaving someone behind.

  • Thanks, Tami. Fortunately, we don’t get mountain lions down here and the bears are just coming out of hibernation now. We have black bears which aren’t usually too aggressive. In fact, they will avoid humans when possible. Still, your point is a good one and I’ll have to remind the kids of bear safety.
